Nagpur, May 10: The Butibori flyover, which witnessed a structural subsidence of nearly 100 mm in December, is currently undergoing major repair work. The incident disrupted traffic movement on one of the busiest industrial routes connecting Nagpur to Butibori MIDC.
Repair Timeline and Current Status
Officials involved in the restoration process confirmed that the temporary iron scaffolding installed beneath the affected section will be dismantled within the next 15 days. After this stage, an additional 10 days are expected for reinforcement work and mandatory safety testing.
Although the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has not officially announced a reopening date, internal estimates suggest traffic could resume within the next 25 days, subject to successful completion of inspections.
Structural Reinforcement and Safety Testing
The damaged cantilever beams are being strengthened using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets, a modern technique widely used to improve load-bearing capacity and durability in infrastructure projects.
Before reopening, authorities will conduct a detailed load test to assess the flyover’s structural stability under real traffic conditions.
Traffic Disruptions and Alternate Arrangements
Commuters continue to face congestion at the Butibori junction as traffic is being diverted through alternative routes. The presence of heavy machinery and reduced lane availability has further slowed vehicular movement during peak hours.
Expert Review and Delay Concerns
An expert inspection team from NHAI visited the site weeks after the initial incident. However, delays in assessment and repair initiation extended the overall restoration timeline. Officials have yet to issue a detailed clarification regarding these delays.
